Telehealth

Speech pathology by telehealth

Many sessions work well by video call — at home, with the people and things that are part of everyday communication.

How it works

Telehealth sessions happen over a video call. Before the session you’ll be sent details for joining. Sessions follow the same goals and planning as in-person sessions, and can be mixed with home or community visits.

Who it can suit

Telehealth can suit adults, older children, and parent coaching for younger children. Whether it’s a good fit depends on the person and their goals — we’ll talk about this together, and in-person sessions remain an option.

Funding such as the NDIS, Medicare or private health insurance may treat telehealth differently. See fees and funding.

Getting ready

  • A laptop or tablet with a camera and microphone (a phone can work for some sessions).
  • A reliable internet connection.
  • A quiet space with good light and few distractions.
  • For children, a parent or carer nearby — often joining in, which helps strategies carry over into everyday life.

Sessions are never recorded without your separate, specific consent. If there are problems connecting, we’ll agree on a back-up plan, such as reconnecting or moving to a phone call.
