Medicare and private health insurance

Some people can get part of the cost of speech pathology back from Medicare or a private health fund. Whether you can, and how much, depends on your circumstances.

Medicare

Juno is registered with Medicare as a provider (provider number 6736502W). Medicare may contribute to a limited number of allied health services each calendar year when a person has a chronic condition and complex care needs being managed by their GP under a GP chronic condition management plan, and the GP has referred them to a speech pathologist.

Some eligible services may be provided by telehealth (video or phone).

Before your first Medicare session

  • Talk to your GP about whether a plan and referral are appropriate for you.
  • Bring or send the referral before the session.
  • Ask Juno about the session fee and whether there will be an out-of-pocket cost. The fee and any Medicare rebate are separate amounts.

Private health insurance

Some extras (ancillary) policies include speech pathology. Cover, waiting periods and limits differ between funds and policies, so please check with your fund before your first session.

Ask your fund whether they will pay benefits for sessions with Juno and what details they need on the invoice. Juno can’t confirm what your policy covers or how much your fund will pay.

Medicare and private health insurance generally can’t both be claimed for the same session. Ask your fund if you’re unsure.

Please note

Eligibility should be confirmed against the client's referral and current Medicare requirements.

Nothing on this website is a promise of eligibility, rebate or reimbursement. For current Medicare rules, see Services Australia or speak with your GP.
